Touch and movement are our earliest languages. They start developing in utero before we have a nervous system and brain. Beginning with our creation through the dance of the egg and sperm, touch and movement allow cells to stay in relation to each other in space and time as they multiply and divide.
Touch and movement are not simply physical acts. They are distinct yet inseparable foundations of our consciousness, awareness, attention, and intention. At a very fundamental level, who we are and how we relate to ourselves, others, and the world are shaped by them.
At our earliest stages of development, touch and movement are active at the cellular level, with each cell initiating and responding, each movement both expression and response. Through this ongoing dialogue and synchronicity, touch and movement create awareness of form and action, of stillness and motion, of gravity and levity, and of the relationship of self and other as a unified whole.
As we become aware of these internal aspects of touch and movement and allow them to emerge, they can guide our external movement and give rise to subtle and meaningful distinctions in touch.
In this three-day in-person workshop, we will explore, individually and with partners, the dynamic interaction between multiple aspects of breathing, expression through movement, and attunement through touch.
Areas of Focus
- Multiple aspects of breathing as a foundation for perceiving your own lifeforce.
- Internal flow of movement as a foundation for moving and expressing yourself.
- Attuning to others through touch and movement as a foundation for establishing a relationship and communication with others.
This will be Bonnie’s first in-person workshop in six years. She is very much looking forward to the joy of being in a physical space in community with you.
There are no prerequisites for taking this course. Participants should have some experience with movement practices, somatic approaches, or psychophysical disciplines. Experience with the Body-Mind Centering® approach can be helpful but is not necessary.
