REGISTRATION IS OPEN!
Our breath is both a survival process and a consciousness practice. It links us to ourselves, to those around us, and to the environment we live in. While breathing happens automatically, it is shaped by our inner physiological and emotional states, as well as the world around us. In turn, the way we breathe influences our movement, our behavior, and our sense of well-being.
Breathing is an inner dance that underlies all outer movement. As we move through space, our breath naturally shifts; as we feel and sense our breath, our movement transforms. Breathing patterns emerge over a lifetime – beginning internally within the egg that becomes us and modified externally starting with our very first breath at birth.
When we bring conscious awareness to breathing, we open a pathway for sensing, feeling, and releasing the unconscious holdings that may limit us. In this way, breathing becomes not just a physiological act, but a living dialogue between body, mind, spirit, and environment—one that supports presence, ease, and expression.
Material will be drawn from:
-
Cellular Breathing for Presence and Ease: Discover how engaging cellular breathing—the expanding and condensing within cells—throughout the entire body is a source of presence and well-being.
-
Mitochondrial Breathing and Vitality: Mitochondria are the breathing organelles of the cell. Penetrate into mitochondrial breathing as the source of cellular energy and vitality.
-
Lobes of the Lungs: Differentiate the lobes of the lungs in breathing and their role in the movement of the arms, ribs, spine, and legs.
-
Nasal Conchas: Bring subtle expression to the face and voice.
-
Expansiveness of the Thoracic Diaphragm: Embody the thoracic diaphragm to support the breath and strengthen the core.
-
Pelvic Diaphragm and Rooting: Activate the pelvic diaphragm and tip of the spine to root the spine and provide a foundation for freedom and fluidity in movement of the legs and arms.
-
Unified Diaphragm: Discover the interconnectedness of the pelvic and thoracic diaphragms, and how their unification brings a deep sense of ease, strength, and coordination to the body.
-
Embryonic Breathing for Recuperation: Yield into embryonic breathing, cultivating rest and healing as a source of renewal and replenishment.
-
Heart and Blood Vessels: Centering breathing in the heart and vascular limbs as the bridge between internal respiration through the cells and external respiration through the lungs.
-
Shoulder Diaphragm and Freedom of the Upper Body: Awaken the shoulder diaphragm to release tension, expand breath, and free the shoulder girdle and spine.
-
Vocal Diaphragm and Expression: Explore the vital role of the vocal diaphragm in breathing, vocalizing, and support of the neck.
-
Oral Diaphragm and Vocal Expression: Find the articulation of the oral diaphragm to enhance the breath, voice, and awareness of the face and special senses.
-
Cranial Diaphragm and Perception: Tune into the cranial diaphragm and its resonance with the rest of the body, expanding the capacity for perception and embodied awareness.
-
Integration Through Breath, Movement, and Touch: Engage in a multifaceted practice that integrates the breath, body, and voice, creating a whole-body experience that underlies both movement and stillness.
This course is for you if you would like to:
-
Deepen your embodied awareness and connection to your breath.
-
Cultivate a sense of ease, grounding, and presence in movement and stillness.
-
Explore the anatomical and energetic relationships of the body’s many diaphragms.
-
Release physical tension and open new pathways for freedom in movement.
-
Restore energy and vitality through cellular, mitochondrial, and embryonic breathing.
-
Expand your expressive range through breath, voice, and sensory awareness.
-
Integrate breath, touch, and movement into a personal and/or professional practice.
This course is for anyone working in or exploring a discipline involving movement, touch, breath, voice, and/or consciousness, including:
- somatic movement educators and therapists
- bodyworkers
- yoga practitioners
- dancers, athletes, and martial artists
- occupational and physical therapists
- somatic psychotherapists
- meditators
- singers and musicians
- those from other body-mind disciplines
CLASSES
There are no prerequisites for taking this course. Participants should have some experience with movement practices, somatic approaches, or psychophysical disciplines. Some experience with the Body-Mind Centering® approach can be helpful but is not necessary.
Bonnie may return to the same material in some classes and present it again from different perspectives. The specific principles explored in each class can be helpful, even life changing, in themselves, but the essence that she would like to transmit is that there is a way to learn, a way to access your body and mind, a way to relate to yourself and others that emerges from the deeply rooted experience and knowing of your cells.
Insights and principles are drawn from Bonnie’s more than 50 years of pioneering work in an embodied approach to anatomy, developmental movement, embryological development, and psychophysical integration. In each class, cellular consciousness guides our explorations.
Join Bonnie with a sense of curiosity and inquiry about movement, the body, and consciousness.
